That would probably explain why W'98 gets confused when you _do_
change the hardware configuration while in suspend state.  Pretty
silly state to get into, then, if hardware like floppy drives are
easy to add or remove, and the box looks as though it's off...

Any good theories about how to avoid this problem?  Avoid S4 and
go all the way to shutdown, with a flag set on the boot disk?
